Chevrolet Launches Digital Colorado Experience

Website helps customers select the right lifestyle package and accessories

DETROITThe all-new 2015 Chevy Colorado is redefining the midsize truck market with its ability to fit a variety of active lifestyles. Now, Chevrolet is launching a new digital experience to help customers choose available accessories to meet their specific needs.
The digital experience combines a user-friendly accessory builder that can be presented to a dealer when ordering a truck, along with a video depicting the Colorado outfitted with different accessory packages for varied uses.
“With so many segment-leading technologies featured on the Colorado, and with such an expansive accessory catalog, we had to build something to convey all that information in an interactive, immersive way,” said Tony Johnson, marketing manager for Colorado. “This site goes above and beyond the standard computer-generated 360-degree view to show how the Colorado performs in so many different situations.”
The accessory builder allows consumers to customize any of five pre-built Colorado packages from a vast catalog of accessories.
Included in each of the pre-built packages – Polished, Safeguard, Onyx, Adventurer and Commercial – is Chevrolet’s configurable GearOn™ cargo system, customizable with accessories tailored to active lifestyles and the needs of tradespeople. Options include bike racks, tie downs, bed dividers and tonneau covers.
Additional accessories include chrome mirror caps, tailgate handles and alloy wheels.
Using the digital experience, customers select the package that best suits their needs. Then they can print a list of their desired accessories, including part numbers, to hand to their dealer for ordering and installation.
To help customers choose the right package for their needs, the digital experience includes a video showing different configurations of the Colorado in a morning commute, trip to the farmer’s market, a camping trip and making a dreaded moving day easier to manage. The video includes clickable hotspots that highlight the class-leading features and safety technologies that make the Colorado the most-advanced midsize truck on the road.
The Colorado began shipping to dealers last month. With the introduction of the Colorado, Chevrolet will offer customers more choices than any other pickup truck brand, including midsize, full-size light duty and heavy-duty pickups.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is now one of the world’s largest car brands, doing business in more than 140 countries and selling more than 4.9 million cars and trucks a year. Chevrolet provides customers with fuel-efficient vehicles that feature spirited performance, expressive design, and high quality. More information on Chevrolet models can be found at

Silverado Engines Integrate Advanced Technology, Dependable Design

Fuel-saving EcoTec3 engines build on Small Block legacy

·         Engines operate on four cylinders to save fuel during light-load driving
·         Best fuel efficiency of any gas V-8 pickup – up to 23 mpg EPA highway
·         Proven dependability – more than 100 million Small Blocks built to date

DETROIT – When it comes to trucks, customers place dependability near the top of the list. And when it comes to truck engines, more than 100 million engines’ worth of continuous improvement and trillions of miles support the Chevrolet Silverado V-6 and V-8s claim to delivering on that requirement.

“Silverado is from the family of the most dependable, longest lasting full-size pickups on the road,” said John Fitzpatrick, Silverado marketing manager. “Our latest generation of Small Block engines help customers save money at the pump with engines that have been improved and by real-world experience.”

The 2015 Silverado offers a trio EcoTec3 engines with advanced fuel-saving technologies enabling customers to choose the performance and fuel efficiency that best meets their needs:
·         4.3L V-6; 285 horsepower; 305 lb-ft of torque; up to 24 mpg EPA highway
·         5.3L V-8; 355 horsepower; 383 lb-ft of torque; up to 23 mpg EPA highway
·         6.2L V-8; 420 horsepower; 460 lb-ft of torque; up to 21 mpg EPA highway

Every EcoTec3 engine features advanced technologies such as direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) to provide power, torque and efficiency across a broad range of operating conditions.

“The latest Small Block engines are ideally suited to Silverado and to the tough jobs that pickup customers do every day,” said Jordan Lee, global chief engineer and program manager for Small Block engines. “We give customers the power and torque of a full-size truck engine when they need it, then use Active Fuel Management and other advanced technologies to seamlessly shift to four-cylinder operation when the truck is under light loads, making the most of fuel efficiency.”

Silverado’s EcoTec3 engines are direct descendants of the original Small Block Chevy V-8, and benefit from more than 60 years – and more than 100 million engines’ worth – of continuous improvement.

“Small Block engines have been used, abused, modified and raced in almost every type of car and truck imaginable,” said Lee. “Our engineers are able to draw on that experience to build stronger, more efficient, more dependable engines for Chevy truck customers.”

The latest Gen 5 Small Block engine has endured tough testing, including a grueling performance durability procedure, where it was subjected to a high-speed/high-load torture session that simulated full-throttle blasts from the equivalent of 0 to 120 mph. With simulated transmission shift points inserted during the high-load test, the engine cycles non-stop between peak torque and peak horsepower for hundreds of hours – the equivalent of thousands of miles.

Testing on the Gen 5 Small Block that contributes to the legendary durability of the modern Small Block engines include:
·         Severe thermal cycle testing, which quickly cycles the engine between extreme cold and hot coolant temperatures to validate the durability of engine components such as the head gaskets, exhaust manifolds and more.
·         The “hot scuff” test, in which a brand-new engine – or “green” engine to the engineers – is run at wide-open throttle with no break-in period, helping test critical engine parts such as bearings, piston ring sealing and bore scuffing.
·         Active Fuel Management validation, which cycled the engine in and out of the cylinder-deactivating feature hundreds of thousands of times at a variety of engine speeds to ensure the performance and durability of its unique valve lifters.

Fuel-saving AFM technology reaches 10-year mark
2015 marks the 10th anniversary of Active Fuel Management (AFM), the cylinder deactivation technology that improves fuel economy in trucks by seamlessly switching to four-cylinder mode to help save fuel during light-load driving.

Introduced in 2005, it is currently available on the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Camaro and Corvette.

Editor’s note: Dependability claim based on longevity: 1987-April 2013 full-size pickup registrations.

New 2015 Chevy Colorado Designed for Active Lifestyles

Concept combo pairs custom Colorado
crew cab with Nautique boat, trailer

LAS VEGAS – Chevrolet demonstrated the versatility and capability of the all-new Colorado midsize pickup at the SEMA Show today, pairing it with the Super Air Nautique 210 – one of the industry’s most iconic wakeboard boats, which can generate a wake strong enough for wakeboarding at lower speeds.

The concept Colorado crew cab, Nautique boat and its trailer share the same custom orange metallic flake paint scheme, while the truck and trailer wear matching 18-inch Chevrolet accessory wheels. With a dry weight of 4,200 pounds for the 21-foot boat and an estimated trailer weight of 1,000 pounds, the combination is well within the capability of Colorado’s segment-leading 7,000-pound maximum trailering rating.

“You can’t own a lifestyle product like the Super Air Nautique without the assurance of a strong, confidence-inspiring truck to haul it to your favorite lake,” said John Fitzpatrick, senior marketing manager, Chevrolet trucks. “The Colorado rewrites the book for midsize trucks, delivering unprecedented performance and capability for people who need the versatility of a truck in a smaller package than a full-size pickup.”

Completely redesigned, the Super Air Nautique 210 incorporates new technology and design features resulting in the look and performance customers expect from Nautique. The sleek and powerful Super Air Nautique 210 is powered by the ZR 450 by Pleasurecraft Marine Engine Group.

Colorado trailering capability is enabled by the segment’s most powerful and efficient engine: an available 3.6L V-6 rated at 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque – and 26 mpg on the highway (2WD models), according to EPA estimates. In fact, the V-6-equipped Colorado produces 14 percent more horsepower than Nissan Frontier’s V-6 (262 horsepower), while delivering 15 percent greater efficiency than its EPA-estimated 22 mpg. It also produces nearly 23 percent more power than Toyota Tacoma’s V-6 (236 horsepower) and nearly 20 percent greater highway efficiency (21 mpg).

A 2.5L engine is standard on the Colorado and it supports a 3,500-pound trailering rating, while delivering a segment-leading EPA-estimated 27 mpg on the highway (2WD models).

Along with genuine Chevy truck capability, the all-new Colorado delivers distinctive design cues and a quiet, comfortable interior that offers amenities that car and crossover drivers appreciate. It also features innovative technology such as Chevy MyLink with a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert.

Traditional truck features such as four-wheel drive and a highly flexible bed with Chevy’s GearOn™ cargo management system are available, enhancing capability. The GearOn™ system is designed to fit within the bed, for significant storage and hauling flexibility. It is upgradable, with modular cargo dividers and tiered storage to accommodate 4-by8 sheets of plywood above the wheelhouses. It also uses the box’s four permanent and 13 moveable tie-down provisions to allow for a variety of secure and convenient cargo stowage options.

The Colorado has a short turning radius of 41.3 feet (12.6 meters), enabling easier turning in tight areas such as city streets or when backing a trailer. Additional features include:
  • Four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife™ brake rotors that offer up to double the service life, which can save money on maintenance.
  • Available G80 automatic locking rear differential delivers a traction advantage when needed and quieter, more comfortable driving when it’s not
  • Standard CornerStep rear bumper design pioneered on the 2014 Silverado
  • Available EZ Lift-and-Lower tailgate that uses an internal torsion bar to make raising the tailgate easier with one hand, and a damper for more-controlled lowering
  • Standard two-tier loading that allows a platform to effectively split the bed into upper and lower sections, making it easier to haul, store and conceal items
  • Thirteen standard tie-down locations throughout the bed for use with available, movable cargo tie-down rings
  • Available factory-installed spray-in bed liner
  • Available safety package includes segment-first Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, using camera-based technology to warn driver of potential crash threats.

Colorado prices start at $20,995, including $875 dealer freight, for a four-door extended cab model with the 2.5L engine. Chevrolet supports Colorado owners with two years or 24,000 miles (whichever comes first) of scheduled maintenance.
