Chevrolet City Express Powers Small Business

DETROIT – Small businesses across the country are beginning to add Chevrolet’s all-new 2015 City Express cargo van to their fleets.

According to the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, U.S. small businesses account for 99.7 percent of employer firms. According to IHS Automotive, total small business registrations have increased each year since 2009 with a cumulative 41 percent increase when comparing 2009 to 2013.

“Small businesses constitute key innovators in the U.S. economy,” said Peter Adriaens, professor of entrepreneurship at U of M’s Ross School of Business. “With 28 million small businesses already active in the United States, of which 98 percent export goods, there is a ripe market to be had for a product like this.”

With an EPA-estimated 24 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, as well as 122.7 cubic feet of customizable cargo space, the City Express was designed to capably provide products and services without fear of breaking the bank or running out of space.

“Small business is an important segment of growth for fleet vehicles,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet and Commercial. “The City Express gives these hard-working entrepreneurs one less thing to worry about when it comes to boosting their business.”

In Des Moines, Iowa, Smokey D’s BBQ, a company that started in a trailer in a driveway and has grown to three area locations, recently took delivery of four City Expresses to keep up with demand for its award-winning product.

“We need a nimble vehicle to deliver our BBQ catering to our customers in a timely manner,” said Darren Warth, owner, Smokey D’s BBQ. “The City Express allows us to retain a smaller physical footprint while still giving us the cargo space we need to keep our customers happy.”

Vital Media Security, a Dallas-based company that couriers sensitive data to offsite locations, recently added two Chevrolet City Expresses to its fleet and has ordered three more.

“The Chevrolet City Express is the perfect representation of our company as it shows our customers that we can do more with less,” said Vital Media Security President and CEO Jerry Judkins. “With great fuel economy and right-sized cargo room, it fits perfectly into our business.”

2015 Silverado Custom: Back to Basics, with Style

 $33,820 starting price
for a well-equipped double-cab V-8

CHICAGO – Chevrolet takes aim at the heart of the pickup market with the Silverado Custom, which offers Chevy Truck capability and dependability in a stylish package, priced within reach of many truck customers.

“The economic recovery has led to booming sales of high-end pickups like the Silverado High Country,” said Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevy Trucks. “But there are also millions of customers in the heart of the market who want a great looking, well-equipped truck at an affordable price. The Silverado Custom is a truck they can be proud to own and proud to drive.”

Based on the popular double-cab Silverado LS, the Custom package adds 20-inch aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers, a body-colored top cap above the front bumper, and chrome mirror caps and door handles. It also features four full doors for easier access to the front and rear seats, a 40/20/40 cloth front seat, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, power windows and door locks, and Chevy MyLink with 4G LTE WiFi.

Most Silverado Custom customers are expected to choose the available 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8, with 355 horsepower and the best fuel economy of any V-8 pickup, up to 23 mpg EPA estimated highway. Silverado Custom also will be available with the 4.3L EcoTec3 V-6, with the most torque of any standard V-6.

All Silverado EcoTec3 engines are direct descendants of the original Small Block Chevy V-8. They feature advanced technologies such as direct fuel injection, continuously variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management, which enable four-cylinder operation during light-load driving for improved efficiency. These engines also benefit from more than 60 years – and more than 100 million engines’ worth – of continuous improvement.

Like all Silverado 1500s, the Custom uses a hydroformed, boxed, high-strength steel frame and a cab structure that makes extensive use of high-strength steels. The Silverado 1500 is the only pickup to receive the highest possible 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration changed its New Car Assessment Program for the 2011 model year. Silverado also features a roll-formed steel box, which is lighter and stronger than traditional stamped boxes.

Priorities of these heart-of-the-market customers play to the Silverado Custom’s strength. According to Chevrolet research, these customers:

·         Expect to keep their trucks for a long time.
·         Want a truck that is as dependable as they are.
·         Prefer a stylish exterior and a clean, functional interior.
·         Want a vehicle that will be easy to maintain and inexpensive to repair.

“These men and women rely on their trucks every day, and they value things that are tried and true,” said Piszar. “The Silverado Custom is from the most dependable, longest-lasting family of full-size pickups on the road, and we think it is a great choice for hard-working truck customers.”

When equipped with the available 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 and color-keyed carpeting, both expected to be popular choices, a 2WD Silverado Custom starts at $33,820. A similarly equipped 4x4 starts at $37,800. Dealers can order Silverado Customs starting this month.

Editors’ Note: Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment. Includes option package discounts. Standard 4G LTE WiFi includes a 3 month/3 GB trial data plan.

Early Colorado Sales Shine in Los Angeles

All-new pickup takes over No. 2 position nationally in midsize truck market

DETROIT – More 2015 Chevrolet Colorados have been sold in Los Angeles than any other city to date, and the 2015 Motor Trend Truck of the Year®  has overtaken the Nissan Frontier to become No. 2 in market share nationally.
“L.A. was a big target for the Colorado, where people can use the utility of a pickup, but don’t necessarily have the space for a full-sized truck,” said Tony Johnson, marketing manager for the Colorado. “The in-roads we’ve made there are proof that it is the right fit for that market.”
Over 40 percent of Colorado buyers are trading in non-General Motors’ products, and Colorado customers are also younger, with more than 17 percent of Colorado buyers occupying the 16- 35-year-old age bracket.
Colorado owners also are buying into the active lifestyle the truck allows, with more than four in 10 Colorado pickups being ordered with factory-installed accessories. This includes the patent-pending GearOn™ Cargo System, an adjustable cargo solution that allows two-level storing of equipment, such as bikes, canoes and boards above the bed and other items below the bed.
The Colorado’s home market of St. Louis – just 41 miles from the Colorado factory in Wentzville, Mo. – is another strong market, ranking seventh in national sales.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is now one of the world's largest car brands, doing business in more than 140 countries and selling more than 4.8 million cars and trucks a year. Chevrolet provides customers with fuel-efficient vehicles that feature engaging performance, design that makes the heart beat, passive & active safety features and easy-to-use technology, all at a value.
